Multimedia Filtration

Multimedia Filtration is a physical water treatment process used to remove suspended solids, turbidity, and fine particles from wastewater. It uses multiple layers of different filter media such as sand, anthracite, and gravel to achieve deep and efficient filtration. As water passes through these graded layers, larger particles are trapped in the upper layers while finer impurities are captured in the deeper layers. This multi-layer design improves filtration efficiency and allows higher dirt-holding capacity compared to single-media filters. Multimedia filters are commonly used as a pre-treatment step before advanced processes like Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Ultrafiltration (UF). By reducing suspended solids and turbidity, they help protect membranes and downstream equipment from fouling and damage. This system is widely used in municipal water treatment, industrial wastewater treatment, cooling water systems, and process water purification.
